A. Application Process

How do I apply for a job in Ukraine through Asia Work?

Go to the application page and fill out the form. It takes about 5 minutes. You will need to provide your full name, nationality, passport number, work experience, and the type of job you are looking for. After submission, our recruitment team reviews your profile and contacts you within 24 hours via email or WhatsApp. There is no application fee. Employers cover all service costs.

What documents do I need to start the application?

At the initial stage, you need a valid passport (minimum 6 months validity), a CV or resume in English, and scans of any professional certificates (welding qualifications, trade licenses, ITI certificates, etc.). Later in the process, you will also need a police clearance certificate, medical fitness certificate, and apostilled educational documents. Our team sends a complete country-specific checklist after your profile is approved.

How long does the entire process take from application to arrival in Ukraine?

The standard timeline is 45 to 60 days from accepted application to your first day at work in Ukraine. This breaks down roughly as: document preparation (7–14 days), work permit processing (14–21 working days), D visa consulate appointment (7–14 days), and travel arrangements (3–7 days). Some steps run in parallel. Delays happen most often at the consulate appointment stage due to scheduling availability.

Do I have to pay any fees to Asia Work?

No. Asia Work does not charge candidates any recruitment fees. All costs are covered by the Ukrainian employer. This includes the work permit application fee, document translation and notarization, and our recruitment service. You pay only your own personal expenses: passport issuance, police clearance, medical tests, apostille, and your flight ticket. Our team provides an estimated cost breakdown specific to your country before you commit.

Can I apply if I do not have formal trade certification?

It depends on the position. Some roles like factory line work, warehouse operations, and meat processing do not require formal trade certificates. Skilled positions like welding, CNC operation, and electrical work require proof of qualification. If you have practical experience but no formal certificate, mention this in your application. Some employers accept practical skills tests as an alternative, but this is decided case by case.

I am over 45 years old. Can I still apply?

Yes. The standard age range accepted by most employers is 21–55 years. Some employers accept workers up to 60 for experienced specialists, particularly in welding, construction supervision, and machine operation. Age alone does not disqualify you. Physical fitness and relevant skills matter more than age for most positions. Mention your experience level and any supervisor-level roles you have held, as these strengthen your application for senior positions.

B. Work Permit and D Visa

What is a Ukraine work permit and who applies for it?

A Ukraine work permit is an official document issued by the State Employment Service of Ukraine that authorizes a specific foreign citizen to work for a specific employer. The employer applies for the work permit on your behalf. You do not need to be in Ukraine for this step. Asia Work's legal team handles the entire submission process. Full details: Ukraine Work Permit Guide.

What is the D-03 visa and how do I get it?

The D-03 is Ukraine's long-stay work visa. After your work permit is approved, you attend an appointment at the Ukrainian consulate in your country. You bring the work permit confirmation, passport, photographs, insurance, and other documents that our team prepares for you. The consulate stamps the D visa into your passport, typically within 7–14 days. Step-by-step guide: D Visa Process.

Where do I attend the consulate appointment?

This depends on your country. Indian citizens go to the Ukrainian Embassy in New Delhi or the Consulate General in Mumbai. Full guide: D Visa for Indians. Pakistani citizens visit the embassy in Islamabad. Bangladeshi applicants go through the Dhaka consulate. Vietnamese citizens apply in Hanoi. For countries without a Ukrainian consulate, our team advises on the nearest location and alternative routes.

What happens if my visa application is rejected?

Visa rejections are uncommon when documents are prepared correctly. The most common reasons are incomplete paperwork, expired certificates, or missing apostilles. If a rejection happens, our legal team reviews the reason, corrects the issue, and resubmits. There is no additional fee for resubmission from our side. The consulate may charge a second application fee depending on the country. In our experience, fewer than 5% of correctly prepared applications face rejection.

How long is the work permit valid?

Standard work permits are issued for 1 to 3 years, depending on the employment contract and the employer's request. Most initial permits are for 1 year. Renewal is straightforward if the employer confirms continued employment. After 1 year of work permit-based employment, you become eligible to apply for a Temporary Residence Card (TRC). Full guide: Residence Permit.

Can I switch employers once I am in Ukraine?

Not on the same work permit. Your work permit is tied to a specific employer and a specific position. To change employers, your new employer must apply for a new work permit on your behalf. This resets the process. Asia Work can assist with employer transfers if you have a valid reason for switching, but it requires new documentation and a new work permit application.

C. Travel and Arrival

How do I get to Ukraine? What flights are available?

As of 2026, Ukrainian airports remain closed to commercial passenger flights. Most workers travel by air to Chișinău, Moldova (Chișinău International Airport), then continue to Ukraine by ground transport. Common flight routes: Delhi → Istanbul → Chișinău, Karachi → Istanbul → Chișinău, Hanoi → Istanbul → Chișinău. Asia Work provides flight routing guidance and our local coordinator meets you at the Moldova-Ukraine border.

What is the Moldova transit route?

Since direct flights to Ukraine are unavailable, the standard route goes through Moldova. You fly into Chișinău, cross the Palanca border checkpoint by car or minibus, and enter Ukraine. Most workers need a Moldovan transit e-visa, which you apply for online at evisa.gov.md. Processing takes 3–5 business days. Full instructions: Moldova Transit Guide.

Does Asia Work arrange airport pickup and transport?

Yes. Our local coordinator meets you at Chișinău airport, arranges transport to the Moldova-Ukraine border, and hands you off to our Ukraine team at the Palanca checkpoint. From there, we drive you to your accommodation in the city where your employer is located. The entire journey from Chișinău to most Ukrainian cities takes 4–8 hours depending on the destination.

What should I bring with me when I travel?

Bring your passport with D visa, printed copies of your work permit, employment contract, and insurance policy. Also pack personal items for the first 2–4 weeks: clothing appropriate for the season, any prescription medications, a phone with WhatsApp installed, and enough cash (US dollars or euros) for small personal expenses during the first days. Your first salary payment typically arrives within 30 days of starting work.

D. Living in Ukraine

Where will I live? Is accommodation provided?

Most employers provide accommodation as part of the employment package. This is typically a shared apartment or a dormitory near the workplace. Rooms are furnished with beds, bedding, a kitchen, and a bathroom. You share the space with 2–4 other workers. Some employers deduct a small housing fee from salary. Others provide it free. The specifics are outlined in your employment contract before you sign.

What is the cost of living in Ukraine for a foreign worker?

Living costs vary by city. In Lviv, Dnipro, or Kharkiv, expect to spend $150–250 per month on food, transport, phone, and personal items if accommodation is provided. Kyiv is slightly more expensive at $200–300. A monthly SIM card with 15GB data costs about $3–5. Public transport is $0.30–0.50 per ride. A basic meal at a canteen costs $2–4. Groceries for one person run about $80–120 per month.

Is halal food available in Ukraine?

Halal food is available in major Ukrainian cities. Kyiv has over 20 halal restaurants and several halal grocery shops, mostly in the Obolon and Shuliavska areas. Lviv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv have smaller but active halal food options. Many meat processing plants that employ foreign workers operate halal-certified production lines. Workers from Muslim-majority countries frequently organize group cooking arrangements in shared accommodation.

Is Ukraine safe for foreign workers?

The security situation depends on location. Western and central Ukraine, including Lviv, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, and Khmelnytskyi, operate under normal conditions. Kyiv functions as a regular capital with occasional air raid alerts. Asia Work places workers only in regions assessed as safe for civilian work. We do not place workers near active conflict zones. Your employment contract specifies the exact city and workplace location.

How do I communicate? Do I need to speak Ukrainian?

Most workplaces use a combination of English, basic Ukrainian, and translation apps. Factory supervisors in cities with large foreign worker populations are accustomed to multilingual teams. Asia Work provides a basic Ukrainian language guide before departure. After arrival, some employers offer Ukrainian language classes. For daily life, Google Translate and the Monobank banking app (available in English) handle most situations.

What is the weather like in Ukraine? What clothes should I pack?

Ukraine has four distinct seasons. Summers (June–August) reach 25–35°C, similar to mild parts of India. Winters (December–February) are cold: temperatures range from -5°C to -15°C, with snow in most cities. Workers arriving in winter need a warm jacket, thermal layers, insulated boots, gloves, and a hat. Spring and autumn are moderate (5–20°C). Most workplaces provide work clothing and safety gear. Pack personal winter clothing if arriving between October and March, as quality winter gear in Ukraine costs $50–150.

Can I open a bank account and send money home?

Yes. During your first week, our team helps you open a Ukrainian bank account. Monobank (fully digital, English interface) and PrivatBank are the most common options. You receive a debit card for salary deposits. For remittances, you can use international transfer services: Wise, Remitly, Western Union, or direct bank-to-bank transfers. Transfer fees and exchange rates vary by method and destination country. Most workers send money home monthly after receiving their salary.

E. Work and Salary

How much will I earn?

Salary depends on the position, skill level, and employer. Specific amounts are stated in your employment contract before you sign. All salaries are above Ukraine's legal minimum wage and are paid in Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH). Your contract also specifies overtime rates, bonus structure (if applicable), and payment schedule. Asia Work does not publish salary ranges on the website because they vary significantly by employer and position.

How and when do I get paid?

Employers pay salaries twice per month: an advance (typically on the 15th) and the remaining balance at the end of the month. Payment goes to a Ukrainian bank card that you open during your first week. Our team helps you open a Monobank or PrivatBank account. You can transfer money to your home country through bank transfer, Western Union, or remittance apps like Wise or Remitly.

What are the working hours?

Standard working hours in Ukraine are 40 hours per week, typically 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Some industrial employers run shift schedules (2 shifts of 12 hours, or 3 shifts of 8 hours). Overtime is paid at a higher rate as specified in your contract and Ukrainian labor law. You are entitled to at least one full day off per week.

Can my contract be renewed?

Yes. Most employment contracts are renewable. If the employer wants to continue your employment, they apply for a work permit renewal before the current one expires. The renewal process is faster than the initial application, typically 7–14 days. After your first year, you can apply for a Temporary Residence Card, which provides more flexibility. Details: Residence Permit Guide.

Do I pay taxes in Ukraine?

Yes. As a legal employee, your salary is subject to Ukrainian income tax (18%) and military levy (1.5%). These are withheld by the employer before your salary is paid, so you receive your net amount directly. You do not need to file a separate tax return. The employer handles all tax reporting to the State Tax Service. Your employment contract states both gross and net salary amounts so you know exactly what you receive.

F. Family and Long-Term Plans

Can I bring my family to Ukraine?

Yes, after establishing legal residence. Once you hold a Temporary Residence Card (TRC), which you can apply for after 1 year of employment, your spouse and dependent children can apply for family reunification TRCs. They will need their own documents: passports, marriage certificate, birth certificates for children, all apostilled and translated. The process takes approximately 30–45 days.

What is the path from work permit to permanent residence?

The standard progression: work permit (Year 1) → Temporary Residence Card (after 1 year) → Permanent Residence (after 3+ years of continuous legal stay). Each step has its own application and requirements. Permanent residence gives you the right to work for any employer without a work permit and stay in Ukraine indefinitely. Full guide: Residence Permit.

Can I study or take additional training while working in Ukraine?

Your work permit restricts you to the specific employer and role. However, you can take language courses, professional training, or online education outside working hours. Some employers sponsor additional certifications (welding certifications, forklift licenses) for their workers. University enrollment would require a separate student visa and is not compatible with a work permit.

Do my children get access to schools in Ukraine?

Yes. Children of legal residents can attend Ukrainian public schools at no cost. Instruction is in Ukrainian, with some schools offering English-language support programs. International schools are available in Kyiv and Lviv for higher fees. Children can also enroll in their home country's online schooling programs. School enrollment requires the child's birth certificate (translated and apostilled), medical records, and proof of parent's legal residence in Ukraine.

What happens if I lose my job or the company closes?

If your employer terminates your contract or closes, you have 30 days to either find a new employer who will apply for a new work permit, or leave Ukraine. During this period, you remain legally in the country. Asia Work assists workers in this situation by connecting them with other employers in our network. This is not guaranteed, but we actively help because keeping experienced workers in Ukraine benefits everyone.

G. Special Situations

I am currently working in UAE or Saudi Arabia. Can I switch to Ukraine?

Yes. Many workers in the Gulf region transfer to Ukraine for better long-term prospects, including a path to permanent residence and family reunification. The process is the same: you apply through Asia Work, receive a job offer, get a work permit, and attend a consulate appointment. If there is no Ukrainian consulate in your current location, you may need to return to your home country for the visa appointment. More details: UAE and Saudi Arabia to Ukraine.

I applied before and was rejected. Can I reapply?

Yes. Previous rejections do not permanently disqualify you. If your application was rejected due to incomplete documents, you can reapply once the issues are resolved. If the rejection was due to a specific employer's requirements (age, skill level), a different position may accept your profile. Wait at least 30 days before reapplying to allow our team to review different matches.

Do I need to do a medical exam? What does it include?

Yes. All candidates must provide a medical fitness certificate. The exam must confirm you are free from tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis B and C, and other communicable diseases. The exam must be conducted at a government-recognized hospital or clinic in your country. Results are valid for 6 months. In Ukraine, you will undergo a second medical check during your first week of employment.

What if I have a criminal record?

A clean police clearance certificate is required. Minor traffic violations or expired fines typically do not affect your application. Serious criminal convictions (theft, assault, fraud, drug offenses) will result in rejection at the work permit or visa stage. If you have a past record that was expunged or pardoned, provide official documentation. Each case is evaluated individually by Ukrainian authorities, not by Asia Work.

What happens in case of a medical emergency in Ukraine?

All foreign workers with legal employment are covered by Ukrainian labor law, which requires employers to provide workplace accident insurance. For general medical needs, you can visit public hospitals (low cost) or private clinics (higher cost, English-speaking staff in major cities). Asia Work recommends that all workers purchase basic health insurance before departure. In emergencies, call 103 (Ukrainian emergency medical service). Our team assists with hospital communication and translation during serious medical situations.

Can I travel to other European countries from Ukraine?

Not on a Ukrainian D visa. The D visa allows entry and stay in Ukraine only. Travel to EU or Schengen countries requires a separate visa application. Some workers apply for Schengen tourist visas after establishing residence in Ukraine, but approval depends on your nationality and immigration profile. Moldova (bordering Ukraine) offers e-visa access for many nationalities and is a common weekend destination for foreign workers based in Western Ukraine.

Are there religious facilities available for workers in Ukraine?

Yes. Ukraine has mosques in Kyiv (Ar-Rahma Mosque in Podil district), Kharkiv, Dnipro, Lviv, and Odesa. Hindu temples and Sikh gurudwaras are present in Kyiv and operate community gatherings. Christian churches are widely available across all Ukrainian cities. Prayer rooms at larger workplaces are sometimes arranged at the request of workers. During Ramadan, many employers accommodate adjusted break schedules for Muslim workers when requested in advance.
